GS8208 LED Strip Vs Other External Addressable LED Strips
Unlike common externally IC-addressable light strips like the WS2811 series, M1804/TM1809/TM1934 series, FW1906/FW1935/FW1834 series, and UCS1903/UCS2903 series, our GS8208 LED strip offers the greatest advantage of individually addressable LEDs. Each external IC controls one LED.
On a 60-LED/meter GS8208 strip, the 15th LED can display red, the 16th LED blue, and the 17th LED green—all completely independent.
Other non-individually addressable externally IC-based LED strips, such as the WS2811/TM1934/FW1906, typically use a single external IC to control three or more LEDsEDs. Therefore, each LED must display the same color and cannot be controlled individually. On a WS2811 12V LED strip, the three LEDs share one IC and can only display red or blue uniformly; they cannot be adjusted individually.
Individually addressable LED strip GS8208, each cutting unit = 1 external IC + 1 LED. Single-pixel single control, breakpoint- continue.
GS8208 LED Strip Vs WS2815 LED Strip
Similarities:
- 3-channel LED chip: Both integrated RGB color control and utilizes 5050 RGB SMD LEDs.
- 12V drive and 8-bit data transmission: Both are driven by 12V and controlled using 8-bit data.
- One IC controls one LED. Individually addressable.
- Breakpoint-continue function: Both support dual-signal data transmission.
Differences:
1. IC Location:
- GS8208: External IC
- WS2815: Internal IC
2. Design Structure:
- GS8208: The RGB LED has no internal resistors or capacitors. External connections on the PCB.
- WS2815: The internal resistors and capacitors eliminate the need for these components. PCB is cleaner.
3. PWM Frequency and Display Performance
- GS8208: Supports an 8kHz PWM refresh rate, suitable for applications requiring high refresh rates and smooth effects. It can capture images at up to 260fps. Fine color control and smoother color blending at low brightness levels.
- WS2815: Supports only a 2kHz PWM refresh rate. Not as smooth as the GS8208. Color blending accuracy is less accurate.
4. Built-in Functions
- GS8208: Early versions included a power-on test mode with a built-in test pattern, but the latest versions have removed this feature.
- WS2815: No built-in test pattern.
5. Current Design
- GS8208: Utilizes a constant current design. Chips are connected in series to ensure current stability.
- WS2815: The chips are connected in parallel. Slightly different current and brightness control for each LED.
6. Interference Resistance
- GS8208: Demonstrates strong resistance to electrostatic interference. It is not easily affected by interference when near electromagnetic devices such as mobile phones, allowing the light strip to operate stably.
- WS2815: It is susceptible to electrostatic interference. May cause the LED strip to flicker when near mobile phones and other devices.
7. Appearance and Assembly
- GS8208: Due to the need for external resistors and capacitors, the PCB design is more complex.
- WS2815: With built-in resistors and capacitors, the PCB design is simpler and more aesthetically pleasing.
